Alcohol and Entrepreneurship 🥂

Let’s talk about alcohol and entrepreneurship.

They don’t really go hand in hand.

It’s hard to keep yourself fed, watered, sane and consistent if you’re drinking alcohol regularly.

It makes sense that people in employed jobs they don’t like, drink.

Here’s me, in Sweden, in full stressy mode at my last employed job. Startup life is no joke. Espresso martini in hand - 2017.

It makes sense that stressed out people pleasers that don’t know how to go about getting their needs met, drink.

There’s a certain level of predictability and consistency that comes with a salaried job, simply put, it requires less of you

Spiritual entrepreneurship requires all of you. Especially if you’re doing something meaningful. If you have a deep calling to serve humanity, you need to be at the top of your game.

If you want to facilitate positive change in others, you must be a living embodiment of the change that you seek.

Alcohol is the easiest way to feel off kilter and disconnected.

Entrepreneurs that do drink alcohol tend to fit into two categories

  1. They live life in the fast lane, big highs, big lows.

  2. Are not solely reliant on their energy for income and impact; meaning someone else can pay their bills and business expenses if need be. There’s less on the line if they drink. It simply matters less.

If you’re a drinker, have you ever asked yourself why you actually drink?

Typical answers: everyone drinks, a few here and there isn’t an issue, it takes the edge off, wine is like a hobby, I like the taste of it, show me a mum with little kids that doesn’t drink, I only drink with particular friends, beer is amazing on a hot day, it’s social, it’s how I wind down, it’s fun on occasion, I love cocktails because they’re like art etc etc

If you’re not a drinker, have you ever asked yourself what added value has occurred in your life from not drinking

Typical answers: more energy, better decision making, less irritability, less anxiety, better choices, healthier eating, cleaner environments, more organised, make more money, deeper focus, fitter, healthier, stronger, more magnetic etc etc

Of the two, I fit into the non drinker category

Alcohol is the lowest form of connection from my perspective. When I consumed alcohol it created drama, chaos, illusion and dependency.

I used to drink from ages 15-25 and then went cold turkey because any chaos, drama, shame or guilt I felt stemmed from drinking too much, saying something I wouldn’t have said sober and over thinking to the point of poor mental health

I did a live on why entrepreneurs I know personally and follow for inspiration don’t drink.
