I used my 2010 MacBook Pro 💻 when I started my business in 2018

Hey

When I started my business in 2018, I was too broke to buy a new Macbook, so I went back to using the 8 year old Macbook pro I had from high school in 2010 (let me tell you, they don’t make ‘em like they used to, RIP Steve Jobs).

I remember being at my co-working space, The Commons, in Melbourne in March 2019 (14 months later) before I understood manifesting and I knew “as soon as I get a ‘high ticket’ client, I am buying myself some AirPods and a new Macbook”.

That high ticket client transferred the $5k on July 5th of 2019. I went straight down to JB Hifi and purchased a Macbook Air in rose gold and a pair of AirPods - I had been waiting since Jan 2018 for that purchase.

Check the DATE above: Just lil 27 year old me, in the Uber home, over the moon with my new purchases. I had no idea I’d be sharing this pic in a newsletter 🤣

The delayed gratification was OH so sweet, I also purchased a JOBY gorillapod so I could stop recording lives and content on stacks of books.

You may be thinking, how is this really that significant? Cool story bro.

I had come from tech companies where money was an ever abundant resource from VC’s, a mere construct. My day to day computer at Revolut was the latest MacBook Pro 15” with a touch pad in 2017. When I was at Dropbox I could literally swipe my badge and get whatever tech I needed from the vending machines. At Pinterest we had free noise canceling BOSE headphones.

This was a huge f****** deal. I purchased these items from the business I created out of fresh air. I was so proud of myself.

The main lesson I learned: I had to be willing to let go of the golden handcuffs of tech, of delaying my dreams because it was ‘easy’ to stay, when in reality, it actually wasn’t. It came at a huge cost to my mental health. I realised it was easier to leave, lose everything materially if it meant I didn’t have to work FOR a tech organisation ever again.

When you decide enough is enough, the universe moves mountains for you. I promise. It did for me and it will for you.

What will you decide?

here’s to…
